Theatre of the Oppressed

Game Theory:
- Theatre of the Oppressed uses games -
              * to teach you something, guide you through something, to look at yourself for a particular reason.
              * To read bodies (bodies tell a story and you can’t stop it from doing so). Your body betrays you (if you are trying to lie or hide a feeling you can do it with words but you can’t do it with your body).

Forum Theatre:
- Developed when Boal lost his temper on stage and yelled at an audience member.
- The concept of someone not in the story coming up on stage and portraying their idea.
- The actors have to improvise to fit with the story.
- Spectator/Actor = Spectactor

Invisible Theatre:
- Improv theatre but done for a reason.
- A specific purpose.
- It can never be known that you're doing theatre (Invisible Theatre)
- E.g. Boal would go to a restaurant and order a three course meal and some wine and then tell the waiter at the end that he has no money but he always wanted to come to the restaurant. There would be actors planted everywhere. One of the planted actors would respond to this and say for example 'He has a point why shouldn't he be allowed in?' and another would say 'That's disgraceful he shouldn't be allowed in here'. The people in the restaurant that weren't actors wouldn't know that this is theatre and would join in and voice their opinions. Frequently the non-actors would pay for his dinner. They would never find out that it was a theatre performance.
- Things can go wrong so you have to be careful.

Legislative Theatre:
- Used by governments to make laws.
- Used by 10 governments so far (e.g. UK, Scottish Parlament, India France)
- Specifically written for political reasons.
- Also used by big businesses.

Rainbow of Desire:
- Therapeutic Technique (doesn't make it therapy)
- Used in conjunction for hospital and therapy situations.
- All of the cops inside your head comes alive outside of your head on the stage (e.g. personal opinions, self consciousness)

Newspaper Theatre:
- Not the same as in other practices.
- Takes a story and considers it the end product and not the study -
        * E.g. Man kills wife. What kind of person is this man? How did people perceive him before the murder? What events occurred leading up to the murder?

EXTRA ONE:
Acting/Rehearsal and Directing Technique:
- Own style of acting.
- Very hard.
